Ambassador Jean Bosco Barege Meets with Assistant Secretary Frank Garcia

On September 30, 2016, Ambassador Jean Bosco Barege met with Assistant Secretary Frank Garcia to discuss the importance of the Washington Accords in promoting lasting peace and stability in the Great Lakes Region.

The discussion highlighted the significant opportunities that regional stability can create for increased investment, particularly in the critical minerals sector, where Burundi is a valued partner in advancing secure, transparent and responsible supply chains.

The meeting also underscored the importance of deepening U.S.–Burundi commercial and economic ties, with the shared objective of strengthening supply chains, encouraging investment and creating greater prosperity for the people of both nations.

A particularly meaningful moment of the meeting was the sharing of a cup of Burundi coffee, offering an opportunity to celebrate one of Burundi’s most renowned products and an important part of the country’s cultural and economic heritage. Burundi’s exceptional coffee received high praise, highlighting the growing recognition of the country’s world-class coffee.
